Retinex

Retinex is a program for demonstrating the fascinating optical effect first discovered by Edwin Land.  Edwin Land is the inventor of Polaroid filters and founder of the Polaroid corporation.

Below is an example of the application output.  This seemingly color image is actually created using only shades of red and shades of grey.  There are no green, blue, yellow, or brown, pixels.  The illusion of these colors is the result of the close proximity of the grey and red pixels. (Zoom in close if you don't believe me)

This application will enable you to quickly experiment with different implementations of the effect on any digital photograph including some provided samples.
